Questions
Claiming your listings, answered
What’s the difference between “claiming” and “creating” a listing? +
On many big platforms — Google, Yelp, Healthgrades, Avvo — a basic profile for your business already exists, built from public data. “Claiming” means proving you own it so you can control it. On others you start from scratch by “creating” a new account or listing. Either way, the goal is the same: a verified, complete, accurate profile you control.
Which platforms should I claim first? +
Start with the universal set at the top of this page — Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business, Facebook, Yelp, BBB, and Nextdoor. They cover the widest audience and feed the search engines and AI assistants most people use. Then work through the section that matches your industry.
Do I have to pay to be listed? +
Usually no for the core listing. Google, Bing, Apple, Facebook, Yelp, BBB (unaccredited), Trustpilot, Clutch, and most directory profiles are free to claim. Some — OpenTable, Cars.com, CarGurus, ClassPass, Mindbody, and enhanced legal directory placements — are paid partnerships. We’ve flagged those as “Partner / paid.”
Why can’t I just sign up for Super Lawyers or RepairPal? +
A few directories are earned, not bought. Super Lawyers selects attorneys through peer nomination and independent research, and RepairPal Certified vets shops against quality standards before listing them. You can’t self-list — so put your energy into the self-serve platforms and let these follow.
How long does verification take? +
It varies. Phone, text, and email verifications are often instant. Google video/postcard verification and Apple’s document review can take several business days (Apple typically up to five). Plan for a short wait before your profile is fully live.
What happened with Capterra, GetApp, and Software Advice? +
As of February 2026, G2 acquired all three from Gartner. They still share one review catalog and vendor dashboard, so a single vendor listing covers Capterra, GetApp, and Software Advice at once. G2’s own profile is still claimed separately.
I claimed my listings — now what? +
Claiming is step one. The value comes from keeping every profile accurate, adding photos, and steadily earning genuine reviews. That consistency is exactly what search engines and AI assistants use to decide who to recommend — and it’s what our reputation management and AI search services are built to handle for you.
The easier path
Rather not chase 40 logins?
Claiming, verifying, and maintaining every profile — then earning steady reviews across them — is exactly what our reputation management and AI search services do. We set the foundation that gets you recommended by Google and the AI assistants alike.
